27th Annual Highland Games...in pictures

June 8, 2013
I went to the 27th Annual Highland Games...these are some of the photos - there are also some videos on my YouTube, links to be provided at end if you wish to watch and hear some of the events including the RCMP Regimental Pipe and Drums of Alberta K Division and the Highland dancers.

Yes that is a pitchfork and a bale...it's called a "Sheaf Toss" and that bale usually weighs 16 lbs and it needs to go over the pole...yeah the one that says "Crown & Anchor Pub"...

Over the pole...see below...caught mid flight

Then the pipes started so I had to go listen and watch...

Yep the next one Stone Throwing. Very similar to the modern day version of Shot-Put... I should mention there are like 4 divisions represented - Open Pro - both Men's and Women's, Amateur Men's and Masters
in all the events...

Then there was the aptly named "Weight Over Bar" Competition... 56 lb weight for the pro men and amateur men, less for the masters and women but not by much...the height in this pic was13 feet if I remember correctly...

Oh wait more music...the RCMP Regimental Pipe and Drums of Alberta K Division

And some Highland Dancers to go along with it - COOL :)

Caught a bit more of the Weight Over Bar...but not much...gotta say though I have mad respect for all these competitors and their skills...

And to round out the afternoon a "just for fun" Caber Toss as the one that counted took place in the morning and I missed it...

WOOOOWZER is all I can say...the vidoe's on YouTube are as follows....I apologize for the wind sounds - but it's GP it's always windy here...
